Café Wall July

Megan Burns presents new and recent works which continue her ongoing exploration of architectural space and the Freudian terminology of the uncanny.

Megan completed her undergraduate study in Wales and while returning home to Ireland for a visit after an extended period of time, she felt strongly that things were not as she remembered them, even though she knew they hadn’t changed. The walls seemed to be painted a different colour, the tiles on the floor seemed alien. The familiar had become unfamiliar. This triggered her desire to create work that challenges, alters and rearranges our perceptions of what we know to be familiar.

Her work explores the idea of illusionary structured space, through the use of geometry, colour and form. These abstract exteriors and interiors engage the viewer in making up their own minds of the possibilities of space, whether in a world that is of our own or one of an alternate universe.

Megan received a MFA from Belfast School of Art in 2016. She was chosen as one of 13 artists to exhibit at the RDS Visual Arts awards last year. Also being selected for the Hermione exhibition in Alexandra College, 2017. Most recently having solo shows at The Market Place Theatre and Arts Centre, Armagh, and Framewerk, Belfast.
