Rua Red partners with a/political

Rua Red and a/political are delighted to announce a major partnership.

Over the next year, a series of exhibitions will see many of the contemporary art world’s foremost socially and politically engaged artists respond to the unique context of South Dublin County. The partnership will mark the beginning of the new programme at Rua Red, under the Directorship of Maolíosa Boyle.

a/political collaborates with artists on projects previously thought unrealisable due to their scale, logistics or uncompromising subject matter. For the inaugural exhibition, opening this Autumn, Rua Red will host the first public presentation of works from the a/political collection, curated by the pioneering performance artist Franko B. The exhibition will include key works from artists such as Barbara Kruger, Kendell Geers, Gustav Metzger and Santiago Sierra, on display in Ireland for the first time.

Rua Red serves a dynamic, multicultural and predominantly young population; an exciting space to draw out dialogues between some of the most engaging artists operating today and our communities, many of whom are unlikely to encounter these works in another context. Through this partnership, we will bring challenging, engaging and thought provoking contemporary art that reflects the concerns and the everyday realities of the audiences we serve.

“Our programme will be distinct as it will engage full-force with real and sometimes raw issues that affect people locally, nationally and internationally. Our education programme will also reflect the organisations interests with place, politics and people through a challenging programme of events, workshops, screenings and performances that will enable audiences and visitors to engage with the exhibitions through the mediums of film, music, dance, theatre and visual art.”

Maoliosa Boyle, Rua Red, Director

“Presenting our collection and solo exhibitions for the context of Tallaght and South Dublin County, to an audience outside of the usual art crowd, allows a unique engagement that aligns with the interests of our artists and organisation. We look forward to people connecting with these exhibitions in a more direct way than if they were programmed in the typical museum setting.
